Axel Technologies creates new opportunities for mobile TV by expanding the device selection to new handheld categories
Live multistandard mobile TV demonstrated on Mobile Internet Devices and netbooks
Amsterdam, 12th September 2008 - Axel Technologies, one of the leading mobile TV software providers, is demonstrating One-For-All mobile TV concept in Mobile Internet Devices (MID), portable media players, netbooks, and car navigators in addition to mobile phones. Multistandard mobile TV solutions alongside with new Intel® AtomTM processor, and open Moblin.org platform enables new business opportunities for handheld manufacturers. Mobile TV functionality is now significantly easier to add to any new device. The International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) visitors can experience first hand the leading multi-standard technology in Amsterdam from 12th to 16th September 2008.
Axel Technologies has worked with Intel® Corporation and Siano Mobile Silicon to establish the applicability of the fast growing non-cellular product segment for mobile TV. The sales of mobile Internet devices, portable media players, netbooks and car navigators are increasing fast, especially in Asia. The expansion of mobile TV from mobile phones to other handheld devices is natural, as these devices have been designed for multimedia and entertainment.
"We see a natural match of mobile TV services with MID devices, navigators and other media players, and welcome the development. The recent launch of Intel Atom processor, open Moblin platform and multistandard software solutions have made it possible to develop and launch new handheld devices faster and more cost efficiently than ever before. With a wide range of different devices, operators and broadcasters can create a successful mobile TV business for mass markets," says Petri Kalske, CEO of Axel Technologies. "We are helping broadcasters, operators and device vendors to expand their mobile TV reach by providing a one-stop solution for all kinds of devices. With our software and user interface, mobile TV is available on any handheld device," he continues.
Mobile Internet Devices enable new usage models and provide significant growth opportunities for device manufacturers as well as broadcasters and operators. They represent a new category for consumers to communicate online, enjoy their favourite entertainment, and access information on-the-go.
"At Intel, we see a great opportunity to expand Internet usage via a variety of applications and devices. Applications like the Axel Mobile TV solution, bringing TV to devices will present new opportunities for service providers," said Ram Peddibhotla, marketing director, System Software Division, Intel Corporation. "Axel's TV application coupled with the Moblin software stack optimised for Intel® AtomTM processor based devices will deliver a rich media experience to consumers."
